The safety system is drawn from SGL's Air Operator Certificate, Flight Operations Manual, SOP Manual, Maintenance Control Manual, Emergency Response Plan, HSE Policy Manual and the IAGSA Safety Policy Manual, and it is published openly.

SGL is a founding and accredited member in good standing of the International Airborne Geophysics Safety Association (IAGSA), and an active executive member.

  • Project specific aviation risk analysis on the IAGSA model before flying.
  • Two pilot crews sharing handling duties, on VFR daylight operations as standard.
  • Duty limits: a maximum of 14 duty hours per day, and flight time maxima of 60, 120 and 300 hours in 7, 30 and 90 days.
  • Flight following with position calls at intervals not exceeding one hour.
  • Essential crew only, no passengers; a personal EPIRB and smoke hood for every crew member; no IATA dangerous goods carried.

Engineering and maintenance run under AMO authority: documented modifications, special inspections for the stresses of low altitude survey flying, weekly maintenance reports to headquarters, tamper proof seals in high risk areas, and fuel quality control by the AME and the captain.
